Coastal communities
Fisheries are central to the culture of coastal communities, and deliver economic benefits, jobs, and a connection to local ecosystems. Over the past several decades fish harvesters on the Pacific Coast have seen their incomes drop to the lowest in the country as large corporations and foreign and speculative investors drive up the cost of licences and quotas, putting them out of reach.
It’s time for a new approach. An approach that helps coastal communities and First Nations rebuild local businesses, strengthen the workforce and create new opportunities for Canada.
We are a movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous fish harvesters, small businesses, fishmongers, chefs, restaurateurs, fishing families, and community organizations united by our connection to fisheries and the abundant social, cultural, and economic benefits that come from harvesting and sharing food from the places we call home.
